Springtime is with us. Evidence of this is everywhere: the countryside dressed in different hues on account of all the beautiful flowers blooming, the days getting longer and the temperature getting warmer. Spring is all about colour and new life, and what better way to celebrate spring than with the Valletta Green Festival? The Valletta Green Festival is a project by the Valletta 2018 Foundation which raises awareness about the environment by transforming otherwise urban areas such as Valletta into colourful green areas. The Festival runs from the 29th to 31st May.

The Festival, which is part of the Foundation’s Cultural Programme, features the Recycled Percussions workshops (also part of the Cultural Programme). These workshops promote recycling and sustainability by allowing children to create their own instruments using recyclable materials. The pièce de résistance of the entire festival is the infiorata, a large installation constructed of small potted flowers placed next to each other in one of the largest spaces in Valletta – Pjazza San Ġorġ.

This project is being done in collaboration with the Ministry for Sustainable Development, The Environment and Climate Change; the Environmental Landscaping Consortium; the Parks Department, as part of the Tree 4 U (34U) campaign; and WasteServ Malta Ltd.
