One of the Valletta 2018 projects met with great enthusiasm is the Valletta Green Festival – a weekend-long event that raises awareness about the environment by transforming otherwise urban areas such as Valletta into colourful green areas. This year’s Valletta Green Festival will take place from the 6th to the 8th May 2016.

The main attraction of the festival is the infiorata, a large installation which transforms one of the largest open spaces in Valletta, Pjazza San Ġorġ with a huge floral carpet of some 80,000 potted plants.

Two 400-year-old gardens in Valletta will be opening to the public for the first time during the Valletta Green Festival at the Archbishop’s Palace and the Monastery of St Catherine. Both gardens will be open between 9am and noon and again between 4pm and 7pm during the three days of the festival.

Volunteers will be guiding people to the gardens from Pjazza San Ġorġ.
