This innovative project encourages middle school students to explore the relationship between music and architecture in fun and accessible ways. The programme introduces classes to key concepts in both disciplines through a tour of the school’s locality, followed by a hands-on approach that explores space and sound during the workshops. Participants are then encouraged to compose unique soundscapes based on the urban landscapes explored.

These soundscapes are then shared with other participating schools, which interpret each other’s locality through the creation of art installations. By the end of KantaKantun, participants take away a holistic approach to learning that helps them with their listening, observation, communication within a team setting, planning and creation, and finalising their ideas. An art installation inspired by the students who have participated in KantaKantun over the years will then be set up in Valletta as part of the ŻiguŻajg Festival.
