The Valletta 2018 Foundation is endorsing Storie di Fede, Storie di Re, an exhibition presenting two replicas of masterpieces of medieval ornaments.
7 centuries of history tell the visceral bond that unite San Gennaro, Naples, the faith and the great dynasties that Europe has made. A story written in 305 AD, the date of the martyrdom of Gennaro, a few years before Constantine, the first Christian emperor. Elena, the mother of Constantine, on a trip to the Holy Land, received the sacred nails of the cross of Christ and used them in Constantine’s crown, now known as the Iron Crown of Lombardy, and in a bit for Constantine’s horse.
This exhibition reveals the power of faith; on the one hand, it creates the visceral bond that unites San Gennaro in Naples and the Neapolitans, represented by the Bust in gilded Silver and precious stones of the Angevin period and, on the other, the great dynasties of Europe that are crowned by faith with the Crown of the Lombard Iron that is what remains of the Elm of Constantine, built by the will of Helen and inside it carries the nails of the cross of Christ! The special pieces of this exhibition are original replicas made by Italian goldsmith masters.
This exhibition will be held at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Valletta between the 20th September and the 19th October 2018.
