The Travelling Stage programme presents the common elements between the people and the music of the Mediterranean and the Middle East. Its next stop at Yeroskipou in Cyprus shall present world renowned composer and percussionist Zohar Fresco.
Fresco dedicated a part of his career to the sounds of Tof Miriam percussions, a type of percussion that appeared in the Middle East thousands οf years ago. Nowadays Fresco is one of the leading percussionists in Israel. Internationally, turned his research on the frame drum into a working vocation. He travelled across the globe to learn about this oldest known drum and to familiarise himself with local drummers and their drums, meeting with local masters and developing unique playing methods and techniques.
Musicians Tomer Bay and Mark Mushayev as well as composers and musicians Ross Daly and Kelly Thoma, specializing in the music of Cretan lyre, will give a new special meaning to the slogan of the Pafos 2017 European Capital of Culture “Bridging Continents – Linking Cultures”.
