Open Call for designing a logo for a participatory and inclusive European artistic project
About the project
By fusing the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with the famous Arab love story of Layla and Majnun the project Orfeo&Majnun connects two myths which reflect basic, essential human experiences: love, existential loss, and longing.
The combination of the two myths is the starting point for an inclusive intercultural project that offers, on the basis of respecting the different cultures, opportunities for a rich variety of interpretations, mutual understanding and cultural transfer.
As a result, O&M will develop and present a music theatre piece in two parts incorporating an interdisciplinary and participatory community-driven approach. Additionally, O&M will implement interdisciplinary education- and training-workshops, animated by artists and urban experts offering inclusive community-workshops to initiate a collective interpretation, knowledge transfer and development process.
The project connects seven European partners in seven cities and countries: La Monnaie Brussels (Belgium), Aix en Provence (France), European Capital 2018 Valletta (Malta), Wiener Konzerthaus/Konzerthaus Vienna (Austria), Operadagen, Rotterdam (The Netherlands), Festival Krakow (Poland) and Imaginarios Festival Santa Maria da Feira (Portugal) and includes a wide range of different stakeholders and community groups. In order to achieve the following:
- a) Intercultural and interfaith dialogue
- b) Capacity building & training for cultural operators & citizens
- c) Strengthening networks & building new partnerships
- d) Attracting new and wider audiences
- e) Establishing participatory co-creations processes as innovative artistic models
- f) Strengthening social-, cultural-, and urban cohesion
O&M has been designed in closely inter-linked phases and will be professionally managed by an experienced team, collaborating with local networks and partners.
The process begins with the dissemination of the stories into the city, identifying participants and stories, and grows through the workshops and rehearsals leading to the public performances.
O&M will incorporate local languages and be developed and performed by professionals and non-professionals in public spaces and theatres.
Orfeo&Majnun is a European project funded under the Creative Europe framework by the European Union.
