Valletta 2018’s major multi-site exhibition, “Dal-Baħar Madwarha”, opens its doors to curious visitors across the Islands starting from the 10th of March. Curated by Maren Richter, large installations, performances and public interventions are taking place in both traditional and unexpected locations across Malta, exploring the idea of “islandness” in playful and critical ways.
By definition, ‘no man’s land’ is an area of unkowned, unclaimed, uninhabited or unoccupied land, How possible is it to give a new reading to No Man’s Land in Malta? Her installation, a map and interviews, will be part of her research for the walks she will design. Borg invites the audience to look from the sea onto the islands’ ‘ No Man’s Land’ along the coast of the Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour to discover new forms of territories.
Simultaneously the project also reflects on the lack of use of the island’s natural resource – the sea as a means of transport in our daily commute. The boat trips offer a circular route around each harbour including a number of pick up / drop off points. The artist invites you to make full use of this functional element of this project and plan your journey accordingly based on your needs and errands.
For Borg it is important to offer sustainable alternative practices, hence the use of an electric-powered Luzzu – the result of a research project carried out under the supervision of Prof Joseph Cilia at the Department of Industrial Electrical Power Conversion, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malta.
