A gigantic tree-like structure is to be erected in Mons, Belgium’s Capital of Culture for the year 2015. The structure, created by Flemish artist Arne Quinze, is to be set up in the pedestrian area which used to be the Palais de Justice’s car park.
Quinze has set up these massive wooden structures all around the world in places such as the Burning Man festival in the United States, and also in Belgium and Germany. His Mons installation will occupy the space between the Church of St Elizabeth and the Maison Losseau. The Mons structure will be 90 metres long and 18 metres high. Arne’s piece will be covered in fluorescent paint and will act as a metaphor for the bonds formed between different people.
