On Culture: Mapping Valletta 2018
The Valletta 2018 Foundation, together with Midsea books, has published “On Culture: Mapping Valletta 2018”, a study presenting multidisciplinary research on the use of public, private and communal spaces for cultural activity across the Maltese islands. This analysis was carried out in light of the Malta’s ever-changing cultural sector in the run-up to Valletta 2018, bringing forth compelling new ways of thinking on Malta’s cultural realities.
Valletta’s title as “European Capital of Culture” encourages a critical reflection on this issue by examining the various cultural practices undertaken by local communities and by raising questions over the process through which these activities are mediated and negotiated through the city’s space and cultural infrastructure.
This collection of essays, now on sale from all major bookstores and online retailers, presents various academic perspectives from distinct scholars on these issues, exploring the use of cultural space for different types of artistic interaction as part of the Valletta 2018 Foundation’s Cultural Mapping project.
