Square is the brainchild of artists Willi Dorner and Lisa Rastl, whose work often incorporates architectural motifs and societal issues. The artists were immediately struck by Malta’s high population density, which serves as the starting point for Square. Thirty-six members of the public form six lines and six rows across various locations in Malta and Gozo.
This diverse group will be dressed in simple black and white, their bodies representing a basic unit of measure as they interact with their surroundings. Valletta 2018’s programme is hosting images of these creations, which are designed to elicit thoughts about the future of our fast-growing urban population.
