Singers wanted to be part of the choir in the opera Orfeo & Majnun, an interdisciplinary project in two parts which connects the Middle Eastern legend of Layla and Majnun and the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orfeo & Majnun is being staged in Malta for the first time at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th October 2018.

This project is calling for a choir of 80-120 singers which will bring along young and old, female and male individuals from different communities across Malta and Gozo.

Orfeo & Majnun will be staged for the first time at La Monnaie in Brussels in June 2018. In Malta, the cast for the performances will consist of a core team of foreign artists which will include also 4 singers, 9 musicians from the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra, Bassem Akiki as conductor and a production team lead by Airan Berg and Martina Winkel.

Interested singers are encouraged to send a singing CV plus a headshot and also a 2-3 min audition video singing any song of your choosing, which best demonstrates your vocal agility, skills and range. This has to be sent to orfeoandmajnun@valletta2018.org by Friday 15th June 2018, noon. The music is a fusion of classical and contemporary, so anyone who can sing is welcome to apply. You do not need to be classically trained. Applicants will be contacted by the 1st of July. Rehearsals for the choir will start in August.
