The Valletta 2018 Foundation is endorsing the first ever International Concert Festival in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The festival includes: one concert the Valletta Ensemble on the 9th July at the Basilica Madonna tal-Karmnu Valletta at 8pm, and another concert by Soloists of Clare College Cambridge and Friends on the 13th July at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral at 8pm, as well as two organ recitals by Matthew Jorysz – one on the 14th July at St Paul’s Pro-Cathedral at 1pm and one on the 15th July at St John’s Co-Cathedral at 5.20pm.

The Valletta Ensemble was founded by Valhmor Montfort in 2012 is a private orchestra which performs in various activities playing different genres of music. This orchestra is made of talented students and professional musicians.
Valhmor Montfort is the musical director of the Ensemble he is also a violinist in the Malta Philarmhonic Orchestra and is studying conducting at the London College of Music .
Charles Vella Zarb is a well known tenor from Malta His recordings include Paolino Vassallo’s Grande Messa.
Anita Vella Bondin, a Maltese Soprano, recently took part in the commemoration celebrations of the Great Seige of Malta.She is a member of Maleth Synphonia and recently sang in ‘A Century of Amazing Grace’ conducted by Michael Laus.
Soprano Hannah Bonnici commenced her vocal training at the Johann Strauss School of Music at the age of fifteen. For the last five years she has studied under the direction of Latvian opera singer Karmen Radovska and has performed in Ventspils, Latvia. She is part of the Teatru Manoel Youth Opera (TMYO). In 2015, she made her debut as Belinda at the Teatru Manoel in Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Hannah is currently completing her Master of Pharmacy at the University of Malta whilst continuing her vocal training.

The soloists in this concert and the two Organ Recitals are giving their time without charge to raise money for the restauration of the Oratory of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel. There will be a retiring Collection. Please be generous.

Sophie Woodhead | soprano
Sophie has been a member of The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge for the past three years and has performed as a soloist in high-profile venues across the UK and the USA, including the Library of Congress, Washington.
Alice Halstead | soprano
Alice is the Choir Administrator for The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge and features as the soprano soloist in Wesley’s Blessed be the God and Father on their highly-acclaimed latest disc, ‘Haes dies: Music for Easter’.
Henrietta Box | mezzo-soprano
Henrietta is a member of The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge. As both a violinist and a mezzo-soprano, she has performed across the UK, Europe and the United States. Highlights include performing Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms in Eaton Square, London.
Laurence Booth-Clibborn | tenor
Laurence is in his final year singing with The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge. As well as performing with the choir in services, concerts and on tours, he has appeared in several opera’s in Cambridge, including the role of Snout in Britten’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Matthew Jorysz | organ
Matthew is the Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey. Before this he held the Abbey’s Organ Scholarship for a term and the Organ Scholarship at Clare College, Cambridge, whilst studying for a degree in music.
