L-Għanja tal-Poplu has evolved tremendously over the years from a small festival between friends to a large-scale national event. This festival sees a number of singers and musicians performing live in the Maltese mother tongue using social issues, hopes, dreams and traditions which are experienced by the Maltese people as the subject matter for their music.
