L-Għanja tal-Poplu – Festival tal-Kanzunetta Maltija being organised on the 7th and 9th July 2016 is the result of a collective effort meant to highlight the importance of songs in the Maltese language. With 18 new songs participating in the semi-final this year and each song to be interpreted live and accompanied by the PBS orchestra under the direction of Mro Paul Abela and Mro Joe Brown, this promises to be a remarkable celebration of Music in Maltese. Considering that the festival saw its beginning in Valletta, it was only natural that the 40th edition would be celebrated in the heart of the capital city, at Pjazza Teatru Rjal.
18 songs will  This edition will include the PBS orchestra which will accompany the participating singers. Through an Expert jury and therefore the contest itself, this festival awards excellence in song-writing and composition of songs in Maltese including song-writers, composers and singers of the songs placing in the first three positions, singer-songwriters (singers that interpret and sing songs written by themselves), song-writers of a social-thematic as well as promising young talent.

For the first few days, a €5 discount will apply on purchasing two tickets (one for each night).
