Modern Music Days kicks off 2016 with a double bill dance programme featuring the Ballet de l’Opéra Théâtre de Metz Métropole from France at Teatru Manoel on the 9th January at 8pm.
The music presents two very different facets of 20th century expression. Chancel is inspired by the music of German-born British composer Max Ritcher, with post-minimalist melodic contours that evoke film music. The music for Spirall, composed by Maltese composer Ruben Zahra, portrays primordial rhythms combining primitive pulse with complex contemporary textures. Spirall is a coproduction between Teatru Manoel and l’Opéra Théâtre de Metz Métropole, premiered at the Musée de la Cour d’Or on the 4th of December 2015.
MMD is organised by Teatru Manoel and the Malta Association for Contemporary Music as part of the Valletta 2018 Cultural Programme in the run up to the European Capital of Culture year.
