Pilsen, the Czech European Capital of Culture 2015, is once again hosting the Smetana Days festival, an annual international music festival which has been happening in Pilsen for over thirty years. Festivalgoers can enjoy traditional and modern music performed by huge ensembles and well known artists, both local and foreign.
The aim of the festival is to link artistic, literary and dramatic areas together, while also encouraging collaborations between Pilsen performers and artists. The 35th edition of the festival is focusing on the theme of coexistence between Austrians, Germans and Czechs within a Czech cultural context.
Organised by the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra, this year the festival features impressive visiting symphony orchestras, solo recitals and crossover projects that interweave classical music with contemporary music.
