RockAstra – one of the highlights of Gozo’s music calendar – is back on Friday, the 8th of June in Republic Street, Victoria, Gozo.

This concert is organised by the La Stella Philharmonic Society and features the La Stella Band led by Maestro Sigmund Mifsud. Popular news anchor Keith Demicoli will host the event

This year’s RockAstra is set to present a very strong line-up of top Maltese and Gozitan talent, including Chris Grech, Ludwig Galea, Remy Azzopardi, Mikaela and Gabriella Azzopardi and will feature music from the repertoire of the Pink Floyd, Beatles, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Freddie Mercury, John Lennon and Bon Jovi, among others.

The Society said that the music selection will evoke the recent tour-de-force musical productions of the Teatru Astra, Jesus Christ Super Star being the most recent – in a year when the theatre is marking the 50th anniversary since it opened its doors to the public in 1968.

Teatru Astra children’s choir ‘PiccoleStelle’ directed by Ms. Sylvana Cini will also feature during the concert.

The Society said that “RockAstra in Gozo, has in the past years consolidated a reputation as another large-scale venture organised by Teatru Astra and its own La Stella Band, and has now established itself as a leading interpreter of contemporary music.”

This year’s edition, which will be held in the upper part of Republic Street, Victoria’s main thoroughfare against a backdrop of contemporary visuals and light designs, “promises to be yet another opportunity for music local talent, besides being a free of charge bonanza of music and song for music lovers.” The concert starts at 9.00pm.

RockAstra will be held within the ambit of the Victoria Day celebrations organised by the Local Council and is part of the programme of Valletta 2018.

The concert is also supported by the Ministry for Gozo, General Soft Drinks and Citadel Insurance. More information is available on www.lastella.com.mt.
