The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (Amsterdam) is one of the very best orchestras in the world, due to its stylistic flexibility and sound. The Orchestra will be visiting Malta for the very first time in history, as it continues its tour of all 28 Member States of the European Union, RCO meets Europe.
The orchestra, founded in 1888, has so far had seven chief conductors. Since September 2016, Daniele Gatti has been tasked with conducting the orchestra, which regularly collaborates with contemporary composers and contributes to the creation of new repertoire by regularly commissioning new compositions.
This concert’s opening work will be performed Side by Side with the Malta Youth Orchestra, with the young Maltese musicians sharing the music stands with the RCO members in Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni.
Daniele Gatti will then conduct the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Mendelssohn’s beautiful Violin Concerto with concertmaster Vesko Eschkenazy performing the solo part.
Programme:
Mozart Overture ‘Don Giovanni’ KV 527
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E Minor Op. 64
Beethoven Symhpony no. 7 in A Major, Op. 92
The concert will be taking place at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta on the 1st July 2018 at 9pm. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra – RCO Meets Europe – forms part of the Valletta 2018 Cultural Programme.
