Calling All Emerging Contemporary Dance Choreographers!
On the 29th of July we have an opportunity for you that you won’t want to miss – so save the date!
From 10:00-14:00 in Valletta Laura Kumin from Spain will give an informative workshop about Aerowaves: Dance Across Europe and Spring Forward programs and opportunities for emerging choreographers. Aerowaves creates cross-border performance opportunities for emerging choreographers. Their network shares resources and insights. They actively enhance connections between dance artists, programmers, and audiences across Europe.
Furthermore, a unique and exciting opportunity for emerging choreographers of contemporary dance, brought to you by the Valletta 2018 Foundation, will be announced! Only those who have attended the Laura Kumin workshop will be eligible to apply.
So, what are these networks looking for and what is the best way to present your work when answering a call for applications?
This 4-hour workshop focuses first on identifying what constitutes a sense of authorship in choreography, and how to nurture and communicate this essence, in relation to the work of the participants.
The second part of the workshop will address international platforms and networks, how they work, and how they can be useful in different stages of professional development, with special attention paid to Aerowaves, the network that for over 20 years has been working to promote contemporary dance choreographers throughout Europe.
Participation in this workshop will not guarantee international programming, but it will give you a much clearer idea of how platforms can work for emerging choreographers.
Laura Kumin is the founding member of Aerowaves, trained as a dancer and teacher in the U.S and is based in Spain. She was dance officer for the Comunidad de Madrid from 1989-95 and programmed dance at the Teatro Pradillo from 1997-2011.
She directs the Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid, a major platform for new work in contemporary dance since 1987. Through Paso a 2, a creative catalyst that supports the work of emerging dance artists, she has participated in the EU projects ChoreoRoam Europe and Performing Gender. She is active as a writer, teacher and mentor.
