Keita Onishi is a young Japanese artist who produces installations and video works that are related to musical compositions. Having completed postgraduate studies at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Onishi has exhibited many installations of moving images, animation and sounds in many international events and festivals, including Sydney, Melbourne, Denver, San Diego , Tokyo and others.

Keita Onishi has been invited to Malta to participate in the fifth edition of Divergent Thinkers, which will be inaugurated on 21 October at the Malta Maritime Museum in Birgu. In Birgu, he is showing the music video Dynamics of the Subway, which was produced for a song from Haisuinonasa’s first album Animal Bodies (2012). This animated work is composed of geometrical shapes that correspond to the texture of the musical sounds and move in sync with the song. In 2012 Dynamics of the Subway won the artist a ‘New Face Award’ in the Japan Media Arts Festival.

On October 19 from 18.00 onwards Keita Onishi will be performing at the Aula Magna, Valletta Campus, University of Malta.
