Written by Alexi Kaye Campbell, this award-winning British drama contrasts two parallel love stories. The Pride is a play about compassion, courage and the fear of loneliness while on the on the road to self-discovery. Philip, Oliver and Sylvia find themselves in the midst of a love triangle which spans over 50 years, living and loving in 1958 as well as 2008, accompanied by the world’s ever-changing attitudes and opinions as a backdrop.
Originally produced at the Royal Court Theatre in 2008, the Pride went on to achieve the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre, the John Whiting Award for Best New Play, as well as the Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. In 2010, it made its off-Broadway debut and its Australian debut in 2012 and revived in the west end in 2013.
Directed by Michael Mangion for the MADC, it is on at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity on the 24th, 25th, 26th April and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, 10th May 2015. The cast includes Malcolm Galea, Julia Calvert and Philip Leone Ganado.
