Annamaria Weldon’s book (essays, poems and photographs), The Lake’s Apprentice (UWA Publishing 2014) is based on her experiences of Coastal Wetlands in Western Australia. She has two earlier poetry collections, The Roof Milkers (Sunline Press 2008) and Ropes of Sand (Associated Press, Malta 1983).She began writing as a newspaper feature-writer in 1978, and moved to Perth in 1984. As the Adaptation Writer-in-Residence at the University of Western Australia, Weldon wrote ‘Threshold Country’ which won the inaugural Nature Conservancy Australia Essay Prize for Nature Writing, and the 3 sonnet suite ‘The memory of earth’ which won The Tom Collins Poetry Prize awarded by the Fellowship of Australian Writers.
She is in Malta to undertake an International Artist Residency with Spazju Kreattiv in Gozo from June 6 – 20th, as part of a Maltese Islands research and writing visit, with travel assistance from the Department of Arts and Culture Western Australia.
