This project helps school children to understand how cultures develop across the world, nurturing cultural awareness while inspiring creative thinking and storytelling among young generations. This highly interactive programme is a unique opportunity for young people to get a glimpse into the role of cultural bodies like the Valletta 2018 Foundation.

Over 10 sessions, children participate in workshops to imagine a vivid and detailed fictional culture; by comparing these cultures to Valletta’s identity, children also learn about history, architecture and cultural heritage in fun and accessible ways. In October 2018, partner schools on the Maltese Islands and in Leeuwarden will collaborate on the ‘Capital of Invented Cultures’, an assembly for children modelled on the United Nations that will showcase the vibrant cultures created through the project.
