Sex, lies and salacious scandals! Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld is a twist on the love story of two legendary lovers: Orpheus doesn’t love Eurydice and Eurydice prefers the company of other men. This production is heading to Teatru Manoel on the 8th and 9th October.
Reimagined in the 1980s, this production promises to be a funny and guaranteed to have youths rolling in the aisles. Actors will ditch the old-style white togas for glitzy, colourful fishnets, shoulder pads and denim shorts, paired with out-of-this-world hip hairstyles.
This production is being directed by Brock Roberts, who recently directed Carmen for Edinburgh Studio Opera and also co-directed John Blow’s Venus and Adonis and Charpentier’s Actéon with Michael Barry for Birmingham Conservatoire. Conductor is Philip Walsh.
The opera is a Teatru Manoel Youth Opera production jointly produced by Teatru Manoel and the Valletta 2018 Foundation. Suitable for individuals over 16.
Tickets can be booked by calling Teatru Manoel on 21246389 or the show’s offical website at www.teatrumanoel.com.mt.
