On the occasion of hosting the IFACCA and Anna Lindh Foundation forums in Malta, Spazju Kreattiv teamed up with Inizjamed to present rootsROUTES – La Luz del Mar – the screening of a number of local and foreign poetry films.
Amongst the films that are going to be screened there are short poetry films, documentaries and foreign productions such as BABAI, L’Avenir (Things to come) and Almost Holy. A number of these will be open to the general public. In Space B short poetry films will be shown on different screens. Some of the films have been commissioned for the Poetry on Film project (Valletta 2018 Foundation and Inizjamed) and others from Leeuwarden form part of the Potatoes go Wild project.
On the occasion of the performance of the Frisian blind poet Tsjêbbe Hettinga (1949-2013) at the biggest mondial poetry festival, the Festival Internacional de Poésia de Medellin, the Pieter Verhoeff’s documentary film La Luz del Mar (The Light of the Sea) was presented in 2006. For this film Hetting was followed by Verhoeff for almost two years, which resulted in an enthralling portrait of the poet. On the 20th of October La Luz del Mar will be screened for the first time in Malta.
The film also contains the documentary Yn dat sykjen sûnder finen (In that search without finding) and performances of poems coming from the poetry book Fan oer see en fierder (From overseas and further) performed in the Frisian language. The film will be shown with English subtitles.
After the screening of the film will follow a discussion between Maltese poets Antoine Cassar and Claudia Gauci and guests Froukje de Jong u Rudi Wester from Leeuwarden.
These events are being organised by Spazju Kreattiv and Inizjamed with the support of Valletta 2018 Foundation and Leeuwarden 2018.
