From the 12th to the 21st April, the Belgian photographer Jim Sumkay will present a photographic exhibition ‘Motus’ at Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School in Naxxar.
“Jim Sumkay, an incredibly voracious photographer from Liège, tirelessly tracks down, with the flashing eyes of a wild beast, the images within the jungle of life in their improbable settings. There is like a subtle mix of tenderness, humour and cynicism in this talented acrobat of the camera. His photographs do not require any comments. Motus! Given that they all have a word to say, they impose upon you the evidence of their existence.” (Jean-Noël Bloom)
The exhibition (both indoors and outdoors) presents a selection of photographs of unusual situations that demonstrate the relation between the written word and the image. Jim Sumkay produces images like these on a daily basis – where spontaneous humour as a source of empathy is transferred into his photographs to reflect the daily attitudes of human beings. A projection of more than 300 photographs serves to initiate an ‘educational’ discussion.
This project is endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
