Giving concerts is only part of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s mission: helping to develop the next generation of Maltese classical musicians is also a considerable priority.
It is with this in mind that the Malta Youth Orchestra was established. Bringing together young Maltese musicians to perform regularly, tackling an extensive repertoire in the process, the MYO aims to serve as an important step in the development of the musicians of tomorrow.
Each year, at the end of the concert season, the MYO and the MPO join forces for their annual joint concert. This year, the two orchestras will be focusing on the Mediterranean, recognising that the various people around it – as well as the sea itself – have inevitably shaped Maltese culture, and not least its music.
Under the direction of Sergey Smbatyan and featuring baritone Gevorg Hakobyan, the orchestras will be exploring the musical heritage of the diverse cultures sharing the sea we call our own.
This concert is supported by the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
