Now approaching its 4th edition, this intensive one-week programme invites practitioners and students involved in a variety of related areas, such as fine arts, art education, arts administration, curation, and history of art to participate in lectures and workshops delivered by international guest speakers. The theme for this year’s Curatorial School is RESEARCHING CURATORIAL PRACTICES. By bringing together international and local perspectives, this year’s programme asks:  What kinds of research do curators of contemporary art engage in?

The 2017 edition will employ an interactive model, incorporating workshops and a hands-on approach into the lecture programme.

The Curatorial School’s programme will explore a variety of topics that are highly relevant to practitioners and students today, including:

— curating as research and curatorial research methods

— curating the unfamiliar

— the research involved in developing concepts, themes and the selection of artists

— the temporalities of display, and the potentials and limitations of exhibition-making

— references to many specific exhibitions and international venues,  such as the Venice, Moscow, Sao Paulo, Istanbul and Berlin Biennales, MOCA Taipei, Manifesta and documenta

Further your curatorial career development through insightful lectures and professional networking opportunities. The programme includes daily interactive workshops, culminating in an exhibition of ideas at the close of the week.

The Curatorial School is a Valletta 2018 project as part of the Cultural Programme.
