Following last year’s success, Malta’s unique carnival parade ‘Ballu Tritoni’ is coming to the heart of Valletta once again on Saturday 2nd March, as part of this year’s edition of Il-Karnival ta’ Malta!

This event is being held at Tritons Square, and is free of charge.

The show is set to open with competitive dancing at 5.30pm, followed by live music by local band Brass House Unit accompanied by local acts J.Anvil and Ozzy Lino. A number of top local DJs will then take to the stage later on, guaranteeing an electrifying evening.

Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman Jason Micallef said that after last year’s positive experience it is evident that the people really enjoyed this ball and would like to see it again. He also expressed his desire for this traditional ball to keep taking place in the coming years as one of the initiatives of the Valletta Cultural Agency, together with the introduction of other traditional Carnival balls in historic locations around Valletta, including museums. He concluded that while having plenty of museums in the city is a great thing, it is not enough. It is essential that there is life in them, which is why such activities are on the agenda for the coming years.

Festivals Malta Director Annabelle Stivala said that this ball is reviving an old tradition. She announced that in addition to the traditional ball, this year’s Carnival will see something new – a parade of colorful dance costumes around the Triton Fountain by several dance companies. This will be held against a backdrop of music and colourful Carnival floats. She said that this year, Carnival will be a great celebration.
