Residency period: April 2018
In a collaboration between Blitz, Valletta and Culture Zone Wrocław, an exciting artist residency exchange is about to take place.
Following an open call for applications in both countries, we are pleased to announce Blitz will be sending Malta-based artist Letta Shtohryn to the AIR Wro residency in April. In exchange, Natalia Pośnik will travel to Malta for the Blitz Residency Programme, which is supported by the Valletta 2018 Foundation and is part of the European Capital of Culture programme.
The Blitz Residency Programme is a core strand of its artistic and public programme, created to facilitate a long-term, international artistic cultural exchange, while fortifying our role as cultural incubator and advocate organisation for contemporary art practice in Malta. Now in its third year, the programme will support four incoming and two outgoing artist residencies in 2018.
The Artist In Residence Programme AIR Wro is a legacy programme of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 and is supported by Culture Zone Wrocław.
THE ARTISTS
Ukranian born, Letta Shtohryn is a visual artist based in Malta. She holds masters degrees in sociology and fine arts (digital arts) from the University of Malta. During her residency in Wroclaw, Letta will expand on her fascination with the border between states – between entities, between concepts, between times. In particular, the exact point of change from one state to another; from stillness to chaos or where one entity becomes another. Letta’s work often refers to her own experiences in both the process and wake of leaving the Ukraine to settle in another European city.
Natalia Pośnik combines her education in architecture with the medium of photography to dissect and discover the character of a city, and to explore the relationship between space and time. Her project, ‘How not to fight with the city’, will attempt to characterise a city which is multi-layered in history and in the cultures of its inhabitants.
The Blitz Residency Programme is supported by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. Blitz is supported by Arts Council Malta through a Cultural Partnership Agreement.
