This Saturday 28th March 2015 at 8.30pm, Malta will be taking part in Earth Hour, an international event which sees countries from all around the world turn off their lights to raise awareness about climate change.
A number of activities to raise awareness will be held leading up to and during Earth Hour. These activities are being organised in collaboration with the Valletta 2018 Foundation and the Valletta Local Council.
One hour prior to Earth hour, ‘The Eleventh Hour’, a film which revolves around the impacts of climate change, will be screened on the facade of the new Houses of Parliament thanks to efforts by Pjazza Teatru Rjal and KRS. Ambassador for Sustainable Development Ira Losco will also be performing at Pjazza Teatru Rjal in aid of the PUPI foundation, during which she will dedicate a song to raise awareness about Earth Hour and climate change.
At 8.30pm, electricity will be turned off in Pjazza San Ġorġ during Earth Hour thanks to efforts by Nature Trust and HSBC. The square will be illuminated with a large 60+ logo made of candles to raise awareness about HSBC’s project, Water Aid in Ghana. The Grandmaster’s Palace, Portes de Bombe, Auberges and other Government buildings will also turn their power off during Earth Hour.
