The week-long Valletta 2018 Curatorial School, which includes lectures and workshops by top international curators, was opened earlier today at the University of Malta – Valletta Campus.

Directed by Dr Raphael Vella, the Curatorial School is intended for practitioners and students in a variety of related areas including fine arts, art education, arts administration, curation and history of art.

This year’s theme is ‘Curating the New’ which focuses on how curators of contemporary art commission new work from artists and curators, what the ‘new’ means to these,  the use of new media, and emerging artists and locally engaged projects. Top curators participating in this year’s edition of the Curatorial School include Renate Buschmann, Sebastian Cichocki, Michaela Crimmin, Yuko Hasegawa, Nadim Samman, Fumihiko Sumitomo, Suzanne Wallinga and Antje Weitzel.
