The week-long Valletta 2018 Curatorial School, which includes lectures and workshops by top international curators, was opened earlier today at the University of Malta – Valletta Campus.

Directed by Dr Raphael Vella, the Curatorial School is intended for practitioners and students specialising in  fine arts, art education, arts administration, curation and history of art.

This year’s theme is ‘Researching Curatorial Practices’. The lectures will delve into research methods, curating what is unfamiliar and moving from concept to reality. Top curators participating in this year’s edition of the Curatorial School include Sebastian Cichocki who is the Chief Curator at the Museum of Modern art in Warsaw, Alfredo Camerotti, the Director of MOSTYN Wales and Head Curator of APT Artist Pension Trust, Mick Wilson,  the Head of the Valand Academy of Art, University of Gothenburg, Sweden and co-editor-in-chief of PARSE journal. Bassam El Baroni from the Dutch Art Institute in Arnhem, and Fulya Erdemci who is a curator and writer based in Istanbul are also guest speakers.  Maren Richter, a curator, writer and researcher based in Austria will deliver a lecture on moving away from parameters.
