A choice of art by ten Valletta residents in the streets of Malta’s capital.
Jointly developed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation and Heritage Malta, Naqsam il-MUŻA is an exercise in community curation whereby members of an identified community choose and present artworks from the art collection to be soon on display at MUZA. The National Museum of Fine Arts is currently transitioning to MUŻA, Malta’s new national-community art museum to open its doors as a flagship project during 2018, when Valletta is named European Capital of Culture.
Naqsam il-MUŻA is an exercise in citizen participation. The project was launched in Valletta with 10 members of the Valletta community visiting the National Museum of Fine Arts. Each participant then presented his choice of artefact to friends and family members, and proposed the location where his choice of artwork is now installed. The final selection is currently installed on St George’s Square, St Joseph Street, East Street, Marsamxett Road, Old Theatre Street, St Barbara’s Bastions, Merchant Street, the Upper Barrakka Gardens, St Paul’s Street and Old Bakery Street. Over the coming weeks and months, the project will reach out to other towns and villages all over Malta. Marsa and Kalkara are next in line.
Valletta 2018 Foundation and Heritage Malta would like to thank all participants and contributors supporting this project.
