Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman Jason Micallef was recently in London at the invitation of the Maltese High Commissioner Norman Hamilton, to attend the 51st anniversary celebrations of Independence Day.
The Maltese High Commission this year marked the anniversary with a reception for diplomats and influential people in the London arts and culture fields. Mr Micallef was invited to address several European diplomats as well as Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma, together with other influential people.
On the occasion, Mr Micallef explained the Valletta 2018 Foundation’s work with regard to the implementation of the Cultural Programme in Valletta and the rest of the islands, till 2018 and beyond. This was another occasion for the Foundation to make further contacts in international cultural circles, while focusing on its European dimension.
Diplomats and artists were presented with the recently launched CD of works by composer Charles Camilleri titled ‘Mediterranean’, a project by the Valletta 2018 Foundation and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr Micallef also met a group of Maltese people who attended the Winter Moods concert at St James Cathedral in London.
In a short address, Mr Micallef thanked Mr Hamilton for coordinating the meetings and for the efforts which led the Valletta 2018 Foundation establish more contacts while carrying out its cultural programme.
