Floats, Music, Costumes and Fun – it’s Carnival time once again. This year’s carnival festivities will be held in Pjazza San Ġorġ, as was the case last year.

The inauguration of Carnival festivities will take place on Thursday 12 February at Pjazza Teatru Rjal.

The weekend is jam-packed with dancing and defilés with dance competitions and a small defilé on Friday while Saturday morning is dedicated to the children’s carnival. On Saturday afternoon, a small defilé is planned to take place, followed by huge colourful floats, dances and maskaruni, all which make up the traditional Maltese carnival.

On Sunday 15 February and Monday 16 February, floats and people will take to the streets and flood the city’s streets with vivid colours, sounds of laughter and music.

The carnival festivities will end on February 17 February with a final defilé.

For this year’s carnival, the Valletta 2018 Foundation are bringing a Dutch band over to our shores to participate in the local Carnival festivities as part of a cultural exchange initiative.
